Summer Get-Together – Hakodate Goodwill Guide Association

On Sunday, August 23, the Hakodate Goodwill Guide Association held its summer get-together at Hotel Tetra.

Many members gathered for the occasion and enjoyed a delicious meal while chatting about their recent activities and catching up with one another. It was a wonderful opportunity for members, who usually work in different places as volunteer guides and interpreters, to come together and enjoy some time as a group. The venue was filled with smiles and lively conversation throughout the evening.

One of the highlights of the evening was a fun and useful “word quiz” prepared by Professor Ichinei!

She introduced us to a collection of practical expressions, including 15 useful Japanese proverbs that can come in handy when guiding visitors, as well as handy phrases that we can use in conversations with international guests.

Some of the expressions made us think, “I didn’t know that!” while others made us say, “I’d love to try using that when I’m guiding!”

It was a fun way to learn something new together, and at the same time, we picked up some useful expressions that we can put into practice during our future guiding activities.

A big thank-you to everyone who helped with the preparations and running of the event, and also to the staff at Hotel Tetora for kindly providing the venue and taking such good care of us.

With delicious food, lots of laughter, and wonderful conversations with fellow members, we were able to recharge our batteries for the busy season ahead.

Now, the autumn tourist season is just around the corner!

Refreshed and energized by our summer get-together, we are ready to continue working together to make visitors from Japan and around the world feel welcome and enjoy their time in Hakodate.

And, of course, we couldn’t finish the evening without a group photo! 📸

It was a wonderful evening and a memorable summer gathering for everyone.

We look forward to continuing our activities and welcoming many more visitors to Hakodate!
